The tax education initiative is part of broader efforts by the SE Hub and the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) to support government revenue initiatives by promoting tax compliance and regularizing businesses, thereby contributing to sustainable local economic development.
The workshops addresse common challenges, such as a lack of information about tax filing, tax evasion behaviors, and difficulties with the new cashless digital tax filing system. Officials from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) provided guidance on tax expectations, legal and financial implications, filing procedures, and introduced digital tools for tax payment. The training also emphasized proper accounting record-keeping, timely return filing, and awareness of available tax exemptions and reliefs for businesses.
This collaboration enhances the capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and informal businesses in Sekondi-Takoradi to operate more transparently and grow responsibly within the formal economy.
Over 80 SMEs and informal businesses in Sekondi-Takoradi gained practical knowledge on tax compliance and digital filing systems, improving their financial accountability and contribution to the local economy.
